Description
Hard Rock artist András Droppa has released his self-titled album on CD!
András is a 22-year-old hard rock artist (guitarist, singer, and songwriter). He has been playing guitar since he was just eight years old and writing for about five or six years. He hails from Bideford in North Devon.
“I think if you asked my family, they’d tell you that even before I was born I was destined to be a rockstar – apparently I used to kick in my mum’s stomach whenever the Clash’s ‘Should I Stay Or Should I Go’ would come on the radio! Certainly, the earliest memory I have was my uncle buying me a little black mp3 player for Christmas one year. He was a proper rock/metalhead back in the 80s, and so he loaded it up with the best of AC/DC, Led Zeppelin, Eric Clapton, Black Sabbath… six year old me played that mp3 player to death! That was probably my guitar awakening, and I started playing a little over a year later.”
When he was 11 years old, he was awarded a place at South West Music School, which is part of a national network of Centres of Advanced Training supported by the Department for Education Music and Dance Scheme for exceptionally talented young musicians. Being part of that organisation enabled him to study classical guitar for his music grades and he got heavily into funk for a while!
András played guitar for productions whilst at school (end of term concerts and the school orchestra). His first ‘pit orchestra’ gig was at age 15, where he played in a production of Rock of Ages.
He started going to the local jam night at the Palladium Club at the age of 14, becoming a regular there every Tuesday from about the age of 16.
“I absolutely loved playing in the house band for the jam nights – it’s such a great grassroots music venue. I basically grew up playing on that stage, and the experience of being thrown in at the deep end and having to play a song on the spot was definitely a formative experience for me.”
András’s passion for performance and musical expression has been demonstrated time and again, both at home and university. He played at OceanFest ’24 and competed for a slot at Bloodstock ’24 and was shortlisted for TruckFest ’24. He headlined his first single release in Bideford in September ’23 and has headlined numerous gigs since (both in Cambridge and North Devon).
Whilst at university he played in the orchestra for various musicals (including a production of Medea at Edinburgh Fringe in 2021). He also has been a member of numerous university function and jazz bands. On top of this he depped for a number of bands external to university.
Some of his musical influences are AC/DC, Led Zeppelin, Cream, Eric Clapton, BB King, Sister Rosetta Tharp and more contemporary hard rock artists / bands such as Rival Sons, Black Stone Cherry, The Darkness, and Jared James Nichols.
The rawness of the blues and the showmanship of rock have cemented his identity as a writer and an artist.
He embarked on his debut tour in September, performing at 49 venues throughout the UK and Ireland. A virtuosic ‘tour-de-force’ of in-your-face guitar driven music, András and his band won’t disappoint. His unique blend of Hard Rock-Blues, Soul and Funk shines through in his original material, and his live band are undeniably energetic and infectious.
